I haven’t written for a while and with so much happening on the farm I have found little time to sit and type. The change in the weather and the extended daylight hours has woken us all from a dreary winter and hopefully we are nearing the end of sharp frosts. Here at the farm we have been extremely busy, the storm wrecked one of the barns but at least no animals were hurt and hopefully we will hear something soon from the insurance so that we can start the repairs. On top of that we have nearly finished lambing although two naughty ewes are hanging onto to their lambs almost a month after the first ones were born. If you have driven past the farm I am sure you have seen them all enjoying the sunshine. Mrs Pig produced a lovely trip of pigs which are now nearly 8 weeks old, where does that time go? My favourite cow also produced the prettiest heifer calf to my delight!
We have now planted the orchard with 40 mixed fruit trees my legacy to the farm, I do hope you will enjoy seeing the blossom and in time enjoy the fruits that they will produce. These are a mix of apple, plum, pear, greengage and mirrabelle all old fashioned types that are dwarf varieties and my thanks to the people that supported this venture and help plant them on the day. I am hoping that in time we will have some bees to enjoy the blossom and produce honey for the farm shop.
Exciting news that we are nearing the opening of the Wood Fired Oven along with the introduction of our baker who will be joining us shortly to supply you all with your daily bread supplies, freshly baked. We will be sending out news via social media over the next few weeks so keep your eyes peeled for more information. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support I know I say this each time, but it really does mean so much to see you all on a regular basis and your kind words go along way to help keep the motivation going. I have a wonderful team that support the shop and all the other operations going and hope that we will be able reveal some other exciting ideas for the future, so watch this space!
